The needs in Malawi are great as Malawi is rated as the 11th poorest country in the world. An estimated 65% of rural and 55% of urban populations live in extreme poverty (below 1 USD per day) with 85% surviving on subsistence farming.
The impact of the HIV/Aids epidemic has contributed to the high numbers of orphans, of which there are currently an estimated one million. There is much work to be done among these children and the poor. This involves feeding programmes, teaching children, playing games (soccer is the most popular sport) and helping local churches with evangelism.

Please remember that you will be traveling in a foreign country. Things do not always go as we plan. Flights get delayed, immigration doesn't go as smoothly as we hope, busses are late, the orphanage you wanted to visit may not be taking visitors the day you are available. The best way to handle this is to be flexible.
Keep in mind that you are there to serve the missionaries and assist them in their ministry. Allow God to work through you, not for you. In the end, you will have a greater experience than you could ever imagine.
